Sanctuary Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 28, 2025
Overview
Sanctuary ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mindfulness and scripture reflection app. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
Permissions We Use
Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO)
We use the microphone only when you choose to record voice input for reflection. The audio is:
- Processed locally or sent to our servers for speech-to-text conversion
- Used solely to generate your reflection; we do not store raw audio recordings
- Never shared with third parties for advertising or profiling
You can use the app fully without ever enabling the microphone.
Storage (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE)
Used for saving reflections, journal entries, or exported content to your device. Data stays on your device unless you explicitly share it.
Data We Collect
- Account data: Email/phone (if you sign up), used only for authentication
- Reflection content: Your inputs and generated reflections, stored to personalize your experience
- Usage data: Anonymous analytics to improve the app (if enabled)
Data We Do Not Sell
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Data Residency and Processing
Your data is stored and processed as follows:
- Primary storage: User data, reflections, and preferences are stored in our database (hosted in a cloud region you can confirm with your administrator).
- AI processing: Reflection content you submit is sent to OpenAI (or compatible API providers) for generating personalized responses. OpenAI processes data in the United States. We use a pseudonymous identifier (not your real user ID) when calling these services for abuse monitoring, as recommended by OpenAI.
- Speech and text: Voice recordings may be processed by third-party services (e.g. Sarvam, ElevenLabs, Deepgram) for speech-to-text and text-to-speech. Check each provider's data processing terms for regional details.
